I'm not the boss but i have a PA. I work in publicity and she keeps my shit together.
Anyhoo, I have mentioned her before on the blog (Moronica, remember her?) and i hate her with a passion. The feeling is entirely mutual and the first major fuck up i make, she'll be in my job before i can blink.
Therein lies the problem. They know they are just one step away from being where they want to be and puts them in a never ending bad mood!
That's my theory anyway.

Sadly your rant about PAs with Delusions of Grandeur is too familiar to me - and I *used* to be one several lifetimes ago..! (A rare type, I assure you - helpful, liked to be organised, never hesitated to barge in on the boss if someone was outside stressing about something urgent etc). And to think I gave it all up to become a manager myself.....only to give *that* all up to become a 'Research Administrator' (ie PA + Manager) at UniSA. Finally feel complete.
Send your whinge (edited of course) to your bosses - you might be surprised to find that they'll actually do something about it.
